Background: I picked up the game from watching a friend’s stream back in 2020. After I discovered riichi, with nothing better to do that summer, I played no other games for 10 weeks straight! I ordered my first autotable sight unseen in March 2021, started holding local meetups, and have been spreading the game to anyone who will listen since then. I’ve been playing in tournaments since 2022, and although I haven’t had a big win yet, the most fun part for me is getting to see the community grow. I want to see more sanma tournaments! I think sanma is an exciting, dynamic, attacking game of its own that deserves more attention, both in theory and in competition.
